Expedition 54/55 astronaut debrief Aug. 7

Expedition 54/55

What happens on the International Space Station? What did astronauts Joe Acaba, Mark Vande Hei and Scott Tingle do when they were aboard ISS? What experiments did they run? How did they sleep?

Relive the journey of Expeditions 54/55 with the mission’s astronauts at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7, only at Space Center Houston. This is a free event, but seating is limited. Tickets must be presented at the door for entry. Get your free ticket here.

Joining the three NASA astronauts are fellow Expedition 54/55 cosmonauts Alexander Misurkin and Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos and astronaut Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

Acaba just finished his third stint in space. He’s now spent 306 days in space after flying once on STS-119 aboard shuttle orbiter Discovery and now twice to ISS as part of Expedition 31/32 and 53/54. In addition to serving in the Marine Corps, the Peace Corps and working as a hydro-geologist, Acaba taught high school and middle school in Florida for five years. He was selected as an astronaut in 2004.

Vande Hei made his debut space flight as part of Expeditions 54/55. He previously served in the Army and taught physics at West Point for four years. He was selected as an astronaut in 2009, but had previously served as Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) for Expeditions 15 to 20 and STS-122, 123, 124, 126 and 127.

Tingle also made his first space flight as part of Expedition 54/55. After receiving a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue before being commissioned into the Navy in 1991. He rose to the rank of captain and earned his naval aviator wings in 1993, flying with the Blue Diamonds and acting as a test pilot. He was selected as an astronaut in 2009.

Don’t miss this inspiring evening celebrating these space explorers.
