VIDEO: Thought Leader Series – Life Beyond Earth in Space and Time

Water. Energy. Organics.

Is there life on other planets? Those three things could help NASA answer that question.

NASA chief scientist Dr. James Green discusses NASA’s search for life beyond Earth in space at our March 20, 2019 Thought Leader Series. Find out how and where NASA searches for signs of life beyond Earth and what they’ve found so far.

Dr. Green shares his NASA mission experiences and discuss how NASA uses rovers and spacecraft to study the geology and atmospheres of other planets and moons in our solar system to search for signs of life.

Green has managed numerous NASA missions from Mercury to Pluto that have ushered in a golden age of planetary exploration. These missions include the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, Mars rovers Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity, and the New Horizons mission to Pluto and beyond. Currently, he is engaged in a variety of future NASA science missions, such as the next Mars rover and the Europa Clipper.

Before becoming NASA chief scientist, Green was the director of the planetary science division at NASA Headquarters. Under his leadership several missions have been successfully executed, the MESSENGER spacecraft to Mercury, the Juno spacecraft to Jupiter, the Grail spacecraft to the Moon, and the Dawn spacecraft to Vesta and Ceres.

Green also has contributed significantly to scientific knowledge through 115 scientific articles in scholarly journals about heliophysics and planetary science and over 50 technical articles on data systems and networks.
