We made history at Space Center Houston yesterday by hosting the first live Oath of Enlistment, or “swear-in,” ceremony administered from space.
Army Colonel and NASA astronaut Andrew Morgan, currently on the International Space Station (ISS), swore in over 800 military recruits around the country including nearly 40 military recruits at Space Center Houston during a call to the space station.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) collaborated with the nonprofit Space Center Houston for this historic event marking a transformative time in the lives of these future soldiers.
After delivering the oath of enlistment, Morgan shared his army experience, stories from life on the ISS and answer questions from the new enlistees at Space Center Houston and students from participating schools during the live event moderated by Brig. Gen. Patrick Michaelis, USAREC deputy commanding general.
Following ceremony, Dr. Frank Rubio shared his experiences as an Army helicopter pilot and flight surgeon as well as his mission experiences as a NASA astronaut.
