Space Station Collaboration Trivia: Week 5

This year the International Space Station celebrates (ISS) 20 years of continuous human presence, a major global achievement. However, international collaboration in space began long before the ISS. Get ready to test your knowledge of some of human spaceflight’s greatest global team-ups!

Which Expedition 57 astronaut dressed up as Darth Vader for Halloween onboard the International Space Station?

ISS 20
Correct! Wrong!

Nice try! European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Alexander Gerst dressed up as Darth Vader on Halloween while aboard the ISS in 2018. This spooky snapshot of the Expedition 57 crew was shared by Gerst (@Astro_Alex) on Oct. 31 while on station. To his left is Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev, dressed as Elvis Presley, and to his right is NASA astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor, who appears to be dressed as a scientist or doctor. While there isn't much time for trick or treating onboard the orbital laboratory, the astronauts do get to munch on some sweet treats while in space, like chocolate coated candies, which are wildly popular among the crew! What will the astronauts wear this year? Will there be any special Halloween treats on station? It looks like we will have to wait and see what spooky surprises the crew have in store! Looking for more Halloween fun? Celebrate the holiday at the center with spooky space activities at our upcoming Galaxy Frights experience, presented by Reliant, on Oct. 30 and 31.
