The long-awaited first full-color images taken by the James Webb Space Telescope are finally here! Last week, NASA unveiled the images which we shared in real time with visitors in the center. 

On Tuesday, July 12, we invited guests to the center to witness the release of the images (see below) via live stream and engaged visitors with exciting pop-up presentations throughout the week.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which launched in December 2021, is the world’s largest and most powerful space telescope. In fact, it’s 100 times more powerful than its famous predecessor, the Hubble Space Telescope. 

Webb snapped the stellar shots from its position at the second Lagrange point (L2), roughly one million miles from Earth! 

Thanks to the JWST, scientists will now be able to pull back the curtain to further understand the early history of our cosmos and how stars are formed. 

The release of Webb’s first full-color images was a historic moment in the history of space exploration. Webb will continue its mission to uncover the secrets our universe holds, one image at a time.
