Diva Design STEM Academy is a gender-specific program designed to encourage middle-school girls to apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts and skills through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
In partnership with NASA, Microsoft and the Urban Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (U-STEM) Initiative, participants engage in innovative and creative applications of science content. Students will problem-solve, build confidence in construction, experiment with engineering challenges and learn about robotics, technology and engineering through hands-on activities.
The Diva Design STEM Academy curriculum is developed to spark interest in STEM careers and support state and national initiatives to improve math and science performance. The program meets the needs of diverse learners and ultimately addresses the under-representation of women in STEM fields.
The program is a series of five installments from February-May at Space Center Houston. Over 160 students will benefit from Diva Design STEM Academy in 2016.
